  • Do I need to book accommodations at a specific location?
No. Where you choose to stay for the wedding is completely up to you. Many family members and friends will be staying in Puerto Morelos in Airbnbs.
  • I've never been to Mexico, any tips?
    1. Safety Avoid drinking tap water. Cancun's tap water is generally not safe to drink unless it's filtered (agua filtrada). Restaurants provide filtered drinking water and ice and is safe to drink. Even though most places in and around Cancún accept major credit cards, it's always useful to carry some pesos, especially in the smaller surrounding towns and islands. Many hotels, and even some restaurants, accept US dollars, but they normally offer an unfavorable currency exchange rate. 2. Toilets Do not flush toilet paper, instead wrap it in toilet paper, if needed, and place in the trash next to the toilet. 3. Tip generously and haggle respectfully Keep in mind that many Cancún service workers (namely restaurant and hotel employees) depend on tips to supplement their wages. In restaurants, leave a 15% - 20% gratuity if the service is not already included. For airport and hotel porters, tip about M$25 a bag, while for tour guides give an extra 10–20% of the cost of the outing, or perhaps a bit more for full-day excursions. Gas station attendants typically get about M$5 to M$10. Bartenders, baristas and taxi drivers generally do not expect tips but always welcome them. It's acceptable to haggle with the market and street vendors to a certain degree, but remember that they're just trying to make a living.
  • What should I wear to the wedding?
We'd love it if everyone wears light colors or neutrals, such as whites, ivories, and beiges. It's a humid climate, even in October, so think linen, khaki shorts, straw hats, light-weight suits, sandals, or light-weight dresses. Don't forget your swimsuit! There are dressing rooms to change into swimwear if you would like to swim in the cenote after the ceremony and lunch. Please bring a towel for swimming.
  • Should I bring a gift?
Seeing your lovely face at the wedding will be gift enough, but if you would like to give a gift, we've put together a registry with some "fun to have" items. Please ship to our home address so we don't have to move items through customs on our way back. Jamie & Celeste Michaels 1131 N. Rainier Ave. Bremerton, WA 98312
  • What if I run into issues while traveling?
Traveling to Mexico requires a passport. Consider getting travel insurance and check to see if your medical insurance would cover you during travel to Mexico.
